It’s San Diego Comic Con, and Marvel took over Hall H last night to announce Phase 4. And OMG, I am going to be so poor! I mean, just look at this timeline slate!
So let’s break this down into the movies and the Disney+ shows.
Confirmed are BLACK WIDOW (1 May 20), THE ETERNALS (6 Nov 20), SHANG CHI (12 Feb 21), DOCTOR STRANGE 2 (7 May 21) and THOR LOVE AND THUNDER (5 Nov 21). Announced are BLADE, FANTASTIC FOUR, BLACK PANTHER 2, CAPTAIN MARVEL 2, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3 and SPIDER-MAN 3.
Marvel announced the shows a while back, but the slate shows how they’re going to fit into Phase 4 (so far). I’m frustrated that the UK still doesn’t have a date for Disney+ announced. It makes it hard to be excited, even with shows like FALCON AND WINTER SOLIDER, WANDAVISION, LOKI, WHAT IF and HAWKEYE on the slate. There’s no information on how long these shows are going to run as yet, or where they fall into the MCU, but we do know that the original actors reprising their roles where appropriate.
Announced so far: David Harbour, Florence Pugh and Scarlett Johansson for BLACK WIDOW, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Salma Hayek for THE ETERNALS, Simu Liu for SHANG CHI, Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) FOR DOCTOR STRANGE 2, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Lady Thor in THOR LOVE AND THUNDER.
I am hugely excited by SHANG CHI. A mother-flipping Asian superhero, people! It’s about freaking time. I know absolutely nothing about these comics (any of them, if I’m honest) but that just means I’ve no expectations going in. Other than the movies are going to be brilliant, obvs. I wish the UK knew when it was getting Disney+ as I’m all over a Loki series.
